Dear First Parish community,

We are writing with sad news to share. Our beloved Rev. Dr. Ron Sloan, previous pastor of our church, passed away peacefully last evening in the presence of his family. As she was throughout his life, his wife Sue was right by his side. We have spoken to her, and she is surrounded by the support of her sons and extended family and friends. We are grateful that Rev. Erik and Carol Spencer have been present, as well, to provide pastoral care. I know you all will join us in sending love and prayers to Sue and her children and grandchildren in their time of loss.

There will be so much to celebrate of Ron’s remarkable life and ministry, and the family is planning a memorial service at First Parish Truro ‪on Saturday, July 22nd. Please hold this date in your calendar and plan to be present as we remember Ron together. We will send more details when they become available.

In times like these we are reminded of the many passages in the Bible that promise God’s presence through grief and trial. May we all take comfort in the words of Psalm 46: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.”

With affection,

Revs. Chad and Anastasia
